I am captivated by the gestural mark-making of Drawing, and the Sensual, Visual Pleasure of paint. In my work, I enjoy revealing the construction marks and drawing beneath the paint, brushstrokes, and bare canvas at times, to expose painting for what it is not, REAL. I reject the traditional rules of painting, focusing instead on the power of images to communicate my perceptions of Identity. I enjoy the visually compelling power of painting, and the emotion it can evoke or provoke. My work is inspired by everyday images I encounter, whether found or constructed by myself, of people I know or strangers. My paintings are a way of communicating my response to these images from my own perspective. The paintings tell stories, and whether these narratives are real or imagined, they become imaginary and magical.
